The expenditure shares of beef, chicken and fish have increased while that of lamb has fallen. Methods We interviewed 10,735 Saudis aged 15 years or older (51.1% women) through a multistage survey. In order to investigate the consumption growth patterns, we decompose the growth in consumption and changes in budget shares of broad commodity groups into income, relative price and change in taste. Results from functional form tests indicate that the model in Error Correction Form fits better the da-ta and is used for red meat and fish demand analysis.
